We’re back! Thanks for hanging out while I took a sabbatical this summer. View of an Hour will always be free-but I am donating 10 percent of my 1-1 sessions to a mutual aid fund in Bridgeport, CT. If you have ever gotten value from this and want to support through donating, you can Cash App to $sunshineclubpt and write “Self Care” in the subheading.
Tuning into the Flow of Your Life
Annual Profections
There is no one meaning for any astrological movement. Not one. Yet also, very specific predictions can come from a chart reading, through layering many techniques. That makes for a mess when it comes to what we expect from our readers.
This is why I believe that learning about collective transits and outer planets is an important practice for anyone looking to really understand their own individual chart and life. Working from the outside in helps us get more specific about how we relate personally to what is going on in the world, and helps us navigate intense astrology without necessarily needing finite answers.
Before I start writing essays again, I wanted to dedicate the next few newsletters to describing some techniques I use to tune into the world both within and around me. These techniques, plus watching the world help me glean the info I need to feel empowered and in tune with reality through the lens of astrology.
Profection Years
A Hellenistic astrology technique which associates each year of life with a house and planet. This technique uses the Whole Sign house system. Each age corresponds with the same house, but the sign and timelord of your year is determined by your ascendant and your own chart. I love this technique because it works with themes you see over and over so it puts power in your own hands when working on tough spots. You’ve seen this before, it’s part of your karma, and you can refer to the last time you had this profection to tease out lessons you are learning.
For instance, I just wrapped up a 2nd house profection year, which is my most important on the wheel because it is where my natal Sun is, and my chart ruler is the Sun because of my Leo rising. My second house is ruled by Virgo, making Mercury my timelord of the year.
My Sun is square (a hard to ignore aspect that must be worked with) to my South Node and Neptune in the 5th house. I have a stellium in the 5th (a group of planets that make a strong influence on the chart). I know this may sound complex but please keep reading. All of this to say, I am low key very susceptible to being gaslit and as easy as I can succeed I can lose hard. This was a year to work on that. It is easy for resources or my self esteem to slip from my grasp with Neptune playing games with me via 5th house stuff-gambling, duplicitous lovers, creativity, getting pregnant, and Neptune things like drugs and alcohol and spiritual sidestepping.
Every time I have a second house profection, I get an opportunity to work with these themes directly. This time around, I was tested-but I was able to reflect back to when I last had a 2nd house year, and see the differences and similarities so that I would be able to harness the energy to spring forward.
Below is the table of profection years, which we apply to your natal chart. Year zero begins with your Ascendant and it’s ruler-ie if you are an Aries Rising, you begin with a 1st House Mars ruled year.
