October 2024 will be a consequential month. We have a New Moon eclipse in Libra tomorrow, the final New Moon co-present with Pluto in Capricorn which very literally indicates that the place that we move from is informed by the last 15 years of that transit and what we see around us is a representation of the wins and failures of our evolution.
I find myself carrying a bit of heartbreak all the time, particularly these days. But I do refuse to lose hope or to slacken my commitment to be in service of liberation and joy. I will always be funny and enthusiastic and I am also sad and tired a lot of the time. I know that’s just part of it. I hope we’ve moved past the idea that things like astrology and meditation are designed to eliminate our feelings. That’s over right? I’ve cried more this year than I have in years and it makes me feel more alive than anything I’ve experienced.
The TL:DR of the Libra x Aries eclipses is that we gotta be more honest with ourselves. You simply mustn’t fake the funk babe. Forced smiles and held tongues do not a revolution make. We cannot afford to abandon the things we’ve learned, or to allow ourselves to be tempted to collude with the powers we critique. We have to be honest. For as many buzz words or infographics as we may have been able to absorb and wield, there are layers of nuanced and unrecognized aspects of colonial capitalism, imperialism and white supremacy that go unnoticed internally that hold us back. Being less judgmental, being better listeners, observing the stereotypes we uphold and/or benefit from, releasing control, and respecting boundaries are all things we can do on the day to day, in any town, state or country that would both improve our own lives and better attune us towards lasting collective change.
This is as personal as it is collective. How many times have you silenced yourself to feel like you belong, how many times this year did you finally blow your top because you couldn’t anymore? This is the rock in our shoe at the moment. It would also be just as valid to critique our motivations around virtue signaling and performative engagement while we excuse ourselves from doing our own internal work as we forge alliances, pursue personal fulfillment and engage with our community. It is the internal that keeps us in the pattern of violence and extraction and limits our potential.
While the New Moon is in Libra, its ruler Venus is in Scorpio, and our solar ingress into Libra had Venus making a square to Pluto at the very last moment. All of this to say, this indicates there is an undeniable force asking us to embrace change. This isn’t about asking yourself how you can play nice to get what you want, this eclipse will clarify by force whether or not your intentions are authentic and if they will hold up in the wind.
Breathing techniques help the nervous system and deep listening to lectures can have a meditative effect. If you are of the ritualistic bent, I personally recommend deepening your meditation and devotional practices throughout the month. I’ll be attending a 9 day Navratri meditation, setting up some flowers in every room, calling into my reiki conference call and taking herbs to support detoxification for all of October. Keeping my side of the street clean so I can move forward with courage when called; and keeping my aura sealed up so I don’t let things that aren’t mine distort my connections with others.
Our collective and personal progress will come when we honor spirit through our daily rituals, in our relationships, and in our communities. As Pluto finishes its days in Capricorn, we are to remember the ways that power is extracted and held above us, and say fuck that to those constructs. The ultimate people power source is Source. May we tap in on our own and liberate each other.
